God’s Blessing Cemetery – Kylemore, Saskatchewan

The following is a transcription of the Doukhobor God’s Blessing Cemetery located 1/4 mile south of Kylemore, Saskatchewan. Rural Municipality of Sasman No. 336. Land location: SE 9-34-12 West of Second. Latitude: 51°54.172. Longitude: 103° 38.777. Transcribed by Jonathan J. Kalmakoff on July 31, 2003.  Updated on August 1, 2006.

Historical Background

God’s Blessing Cemetery was established in 1920 by the Christian Community of Universal Brotherhood ("CCUB"), which had a large settlement at Kylemore, Saskatchewan. After the demise of the CCUB in 1937-1939, the cemetery continued to be used by local Doukhobors and is still in active use today. It is privately owned and maintained by a cemetery committee. The cemetery is in very good condition.

Layout

The cemetery is three acres in size and is enclosed by a wire fence with a single iron gate. There are small trees and shrubs planted throughout. The cemetery contains 151 interments in a single section comprised of nine rows facing east-west. Over half the graves (80) have no marker and the mounds have been leveled. For these, I have used the cemetery plot map and cemetery register to identify the interments. With respect to graves with markers, the markers are typically plain slate or marble upright headstones or flat markers set flush to the ground. Click here for an online cemetery map.

Driving Directions

To access the cemetery, travel east from Kylemore on Highway No. 5 for approximately 1/4 mile (.5 km). Turn south at the first gravel road. You will immediately cross a railroad junction, after which, turn west and continue on the dirt road for approximately 1/4 mile (.5 km). The dirt road bends south and ends in front of the cemetery entrance. This cemetery is on private property and permission to access should be obtained by the owners.
