The Doukhobor Gazetteer - Search Details
Chernoff Village
In 1908-1909, Community Doukhobors from Saskatchewan established a village near Cai Creek in the Ootischenia district of British Columbia. It was known as Chernoff Village or Chernovo Selo (Черново Село) in Russian after the Chernoff family of Doukhobors who lived there. From 1938 to 1942, one of the communal houses served as Ootischenia School. After 1950, it served as Ootischenia Community Hall. [Sublot 15 of District Lot 4598, Kootenay District]
