Doukhobors in the Watson Public Cemetery

The following is a transcription of the Doukhobors interred at Watson Public Cemetery located 1/4 mile south of Watson, Saskatchewan. Rural Municipality of Lakeside No. 338. Historical Background

Watson Public Cemetery was established in 1920. From 1922 onwards, it has been used by Independent Doukhobors who settled in the district in 1918-1934. It is owned and managed by the Watson Public Cemetery Association. The cemetery is in very good condition.

Layout

The cemetery is approximately six acres in size and is enclosed by a shelterbelt of mature poplar trees. There is a single iron gate. The cemetery contains at least 88 Doukhobor interments interspersed throughout six sections with rows facing east-west. The Doukhobor burials can be found primarily in the south-east sections of the cemetery.

Driving Directions

To access the cemetery, travel 1/4 mile (.5 km) south of Watson, Saskatchewan on Highway No. 6. Turn east onto the gravel road at the bend in the highway. Follow the road for approximately 1/8 mile (.25 km) as it bends south. The cemetery is on the east side of the road allowance. This cemetery is open to the public.
