Historical Background
Kirilowka (aka Kirilovka) Cemetery was established in 1899 by the Doukhobors of Kirilovka village near Langham. After the abandonment of the village in 1917, the cemetery continued to be used by local Doukhobors and is still in active use today. It is privately owned and maintained by a cemetery committee. The cemetery is in very good condition.
Layout
The cemetery is one acre in size and is enclosed by a wire fence. There is a single iron gate on the west side. The cemetery contains 130 interments in a single section comprised of nine rows facing east-west. Approximately fifty-two of the graves have no marker and the mounds have been leveled. I have used death certificates and oral tradition to identify 17 of these. The remaining 35 unmarked graves are unidentified. With respect to graves with markers, the markers are typically plain slate, marble or concrete upright headstones or flat markers set flush to the ground. Click here for an online cemetery map.
Driving Directions
To access the cemetery, travel west from the Town of Langham on Highway No. 16 for 3 1/2 miles (5.6 km). The cemetery is located at the southeast corner of the junction of Highway No. 16 and Range Road No. 3082. The cemetery is on private property and permission to access should be obtained by the owners.
