Dergousoff Family History

The Dergausov family of Doukhobors originated in the village of Marevka in the Stavropol district of the Caucasus. They were Kuban Cossacks. In 1816 the family resettled in the village of Rodionovka in the Melitopol district of Tavria province (present-day Zaporozhye province, Ukraine). In 1845 the family was exiled to the Caucasus, where they resettled in the village of Ormasheni in Tiflis province (present-day Republic of Georgia) and the village of Novo-Troitskoye in Elizavetpol province (present-day Kedabek district, Azerbaijan Republic). In 1878, some family members resettled in the village of Pokrovka in the Shuragel district of Kars province (present-day Turkey). In 1899 the Dergausovs emigrated from Russia to Canada, where they settled in the Buchanan and Veregin districts of Saskatchewan. At that time the family name was changed to Dergousoff or Derhousoff. Today most family members reside in the provinces of Saskatchewan and British Columbia.
